The Reversal of Reality
So here at the end of March 2026 we are in a situation where ethnic cleansing and genocide continues in Palestine1 2, a million people have been ethnically cleansed in Southern Lebanon... a literal Nakba level event3, and attacks on Iran rage on4, in a war started when Israel and the United States struck Iran while negotiations where supposedly ongoing5, killing everyone from Iranian schoolgirls6 to the leader of the country7.
And yet...
We are in a bizarre situation where the Anglo and Western European mass media, at worst, report on the conflict as if the victims of hostilities are somehow in the wrong8, and at best use neutral both sides language9 10.
And this happens because what is acceptable even to think in these societies is incredibly constrained and there's no better example of this for me than a tweet from one Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, who is on the far left end of what is acceptable in mainstream American politics, and posted this tweet back on the 9th of January 202611:
Hey so marching into a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and leading with a chant saying “we support (The Most Prominent Palestinian Resistance Group)” is a disgusting and antisemitic thing to do. Pretty basic!
So I'm not even going to touch on who does and does not have the authority to deem something anti-semitic other than noting that it's certainly not Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and just mention how horrible it is that this category of hate is unique in being twisted to serve the interests of a state that was born through war crimes and has never stopped committing them.
Because there are two other things to note here. First there is the classic trick of completely ignoring the initial hostility and just focusing on the response. Because what AOC is referring to is a protest outside of a synagogue that was hosting the sale of stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank.12. The missing context makes the protest seem like some sort of military 'march' into a poor little neighbourhood instead of justified pushback against the violence of land theft, and whether that was AOC's intention or not is irrelevant. Injustices against Arabs and Muslims go unmentioned, and then our attempts to defend ourselves, gain a measure of justice, or resist are portrayed as indefensibly hostile. It is AOC's statement that was disgusting and not the protest itself.
And I said the most Prominent Palestinian Resistance Group instead of naming them for a reason that isn't just a probably futile attempt to avoid shadow-bans. The very concept of Muslims and Arabs daring to resist injustice is one that is so unacceptable in Anglo and Western European societies that it is by default branded as hate. How else can we explain the absurdity of children's educator and entertainer Ms. Rachel being nominated antisemite of the year just for daring to push back against violence towards Palestinian children13.
If even this level of resistance can get such harsh criticism, then the complete distortion of reality and moral delusion of condemning Iranians retaliating against attack, Lebananis fighting against invasion and ethnic cleansing, and Palestinians resisting the crime of crimes being committed against them becomes unavoidable. Defending oneself against attacks is a human right; fighting against injustice is the height of nobility, and Muslims, and Arabs, and Iranians are no exception to this rule. Once we accept this, and recognize where the aggression starts, then it no longer is any level of transgression to chant. "Say It Loud, Say it clear, we support _____ here." It is indeed, the opposite, and maybe soon people will be able to say it out loud and clear without fear of absurd reprisal.
All opinions my own, in the end only God knows best.
